An arctic air advisory is in effect across Greater Victoria bringing extreme cold and wind chill temperatures that can cause frostbite or hypothermia.

As temperatures drop, City crews are preparing public spaces by applying anti-ice products on major roads, hills and bridges, on pedestrian curb ramps downtown, in parkades and around other City facilities. Snow-clearing crews and equipment are ready to go if snow starts to accumulate. Some places are closed for public safety.

Follow directions of signs, worked and safety equipment. Do not enter closed areas.

The following shoreline areas remain closed due to damage or safety issues following the Jan. 9 storm:

  • Ross Bay Seawall, Clover Point to Memorial Crescent
  • Holland Point Park, lower walkway

Some public washrooms are being closed as water is shut off to prevent freezing pipes. Current closures (last update at 3 p.m.):

  • Memorial Crescent
  • Victoria West Park
  • Irving Park
  • Holland Point Park
  • Topaz Park North
  • Topaz Park South
  • Beacon Hill Park Tennis Court
  • Oaklands Park

The Bike Valet will be temporarily closed due to weather conditions starting Friday, January 12 and until further notice.
